A Letter From Mr.Shunnar
Dear Family I pray that all is well with you and
your family. I'm writing this letter to the public and to the members of The
Southern Black Writers and Artist Association, The Western Black Writers and
Artist Association and The Eastern Black Writers and Artist Association because
I want to point out how important it is for us to fight to keep alive our
history, culture, traditions and heritage. I know that we all have our
differences and perspectives when it comes down to life, religious conviction,
political affairs, education, health, economics and historical factors.
The above mention has divided our families, religious sanctuaries, educational institutions, and our communities for years. Nevertheless the above mention will continue to divide us until we can come to the table as one so that we can reach common ground. At that point we can begin to reinforce the land which our four fathers and mothers laid their foundation for us to build a universal institution that would meet the needs of the people. Before any construction can begin in our communities, the site must be surveyed to establish the buildings basic footprint and to ensure the building is set back the appropriate distances from the property lines. The corners of the buildings are marked by surveyor's stakes. Offset stakes, which are about two feet out from the surveyor's stakes, also are placed. The excavator will then dig at the offset stakes, creating a slightly larger hole than the foundation actually will occupy. The extra room enables crews to work on the exterior of the foundation walls. These are the steps we all must take to begin a building process in our families, religious sanctuaries, educational institutions, and our communities. So I’m humbly asking all of us to gather together and begin construction. I’m especially asking the writers, singers, musicians, actors/actresses, painters, poets, teachers, and leaders of our religious sanctuaries to be foremen in this building process, because these individuals have always had a strong influence on the people and their lives. More than ever we need positive people to help teach our youth and community more about our culture, heritage, history, and health by means of plays, seminars, festivals, book fairs, poetry readings, art shows, debates, writing contest, and much more.
"And it
is said by so many that “I have not the time “this is what they speak of that
which Is good for themselves and others, but they have time for that which is
unseemly. So I say if your plate is full for that which is good then still take
it and give it to those who are hungry for a change."
KATEB NURI SHUNNAR.
